Artist Statement
My practice explores the Australian landscape as a site of emotional resonance. Rooted in deep reverence for place - not just as physical geography but as emotional terrain.
Each work is an attempt to translate the pulse of the land : it’s quiet rhythms, its shifting light, its timeless presence .
Australian landscapes hold a complexity that transcends simple beauty. They are at once vast and intimate, ancient and ever-changing. I’m interested in how light moves, how earth and sky merge and stories carried in color texture and shadow.
In the studio I do not seek to replicate what I see , rather I aim to capture the feelings evoked.
My process involves time spent walking, observing, absorbing. I often paint from sketches and impressions, letting the essence of the place guide my hand more than the detail. Oil paint allows me to build slow layers to capture not only form but presence- a sense of movement or stillness
In my recent body of work Legacy and Longing I explore the landscape not only as environments but as emotional and spiritual touchstones. They are space for reflection, connection and belonging. Through painting I hope to offer viewers a moment of pause - an invitation to stand within the landscape and with each other.
Ultimately this series is a visual inquiry in what it means to exist, to witness and to be witnessed.
